Can A Rampant Rabbit Be Dangerous?
Ok so we seem to be getting asked if the rampant rabbit can be dangerous a lot at the moment and thought it was time to put the record straight!
The reason some people think the rampant rabbit is dangerous is due to a chemical called phthalates which is most commonly used to soften PVC. The chemical has been banned from baby toys, and some people worry that it could leak from a sex toy into the user’s mucus membranes and from there into the rest of the body. (Eugh I know).
Some sex toy vendors will only sell non-phthalate toys, using other materials like silicone, glass, steel, or stone. (really! you can buy a buttplug carved from quartz, if that floats your boat.) If you really want to be safe when buying a rabbit; take two minutes to email the retailer to double check.
My stock answer is starting to become simple - ‘I don’t know what your rabbit is made out of, so I don’t know if there is anything to worry about with it. If you want to be safer, you can put a condom over the shaft.’
“A study in 2000 by German chemist Hans Ulrich Krieg found that 10 dangerous chemicals gassed out of some sex toys available in Europe, including diethylhexyl phthalates. Some had phthalate concentrations as high as 243,000 parts per million — a number characterized as “off the charts” by Davis Baltz of the health advocacy group Commonweal. “We were really shocked,” Krieg told the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s Marketplace in a 2001 report on the sex-toy industry. “I have been doing this analysis of consumer goods for more than 10 years, and I’ve never seen such high results.”"
The alternative is to use an hypoallergenic material of which glass is one see although using a glass dildo cannot give the vibratory effect of a Rampant Rabbit.
Another alternative material is silicone which is almost hypoallergenic and of course with a vibrating toy made from this material you retain the effect of the Rampant Rabbit.
